These Three Scandinavian Lunch Spots Are Actually Brexit Strongholds

1. Smør (Flatiron)

Pull up a Danish modern chair to the communal table at Smør and get ready to enjoy some authentic Norwegian sänwishbørds, made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients and imported Scandinavian spices. But be wary: Smør overwhelmingly voted “Leave” in the UK’s 2016 EU Membership Referendum, so don’t bring up Brexit unless you want a spåd of gløk in your fläm!

2. Gfendsk (Midtown East)

Clean lines. Soft tones. Natural woods. These are the touchstones of Gfendsk’s signature Swedish decor, which beautifully complement the fully vegan menu of this all-day Scandinavian café. The breads are baked in-house every morning and the microgreens come from owner Fjord Rängr’s rooftop garden, which is also a convenient escape from the rampant anti-European xenophobia that suffuses the entire downstairs dining area. We at GobblerNY struggle to think of another vegan Swedish Midtown eatery more crippled by a misplaced nostalgia for the glory days of the British Empire. Tread lightly, remainers!

3. Hygge (Gramercy)

By now, if you don’t know about hygge, you’re probably living somewhere under a rock, snuggled up all cozy like. Never matter; the fjolks at Hygge just south of Gramercy Park are experts on the subject, having created a supremely welcoming Danish wine bar whose scented candles, shag carpets, crackling fire, and thoughtfully crafted pan-Scandinavian snacks will make you never want to leave. That is, unless you believe Britain and Europe are stronger together, in which case you’d better keep your thoughts to yourself, because Hygge campaigned for Brexit harder than just about anyone. Good luck getting a second referendum through these headstrong Danes, and don’t even think about ordering the kåvnlaager until you’ve ripped up your addendum for an Irish Backstop and started construction on your own hard bjorder. One thing’s for sure: Brexit means Brexit, which means Hygge, which means Brexit. Now on OpenTable.
